In 1832, a woman from up North,sends a polite petition to the big wigs in the House of Lords
Asking to be seen and heard as an equal is seen and heard as absurd
Asking to be seen and heard as an equal is an affront to the ruling class herd
So she's laughed at and ridiculed
Told to keep her mouth shut and remain unequal

32 years later The Contagious Disease Act is passed
Allowing female sex workers to be dehumanised and harassed
They're the ones who are blamed for an outbreak in VD
Not the randy soldiers and their sexual misdeeds
But Josephine Butler steps up and tells the public the truth
she raised awareness about police brutality when no one else would
celebrate her! Cause she's a feminist saviour who couldn't keep her mouth shut

46 years on, revolt is in the air, alliances are made and shit goes down in parliament Sq
It's the Black Friday protest where wee women face violence unafraid
in a cataclysmic contest that leads to us gettin the vote in 1928
